Uganda Visa Requirements for US Citizens

For a standard Uganda tourist visa, the published tourism requirements are the same general checklist used for visa-prone travellers.

  • Passport bio-data page from a passport with at least 6 months' validity.
  • Tour plan.
  • Travel itinerary or booking.
  • Recent passport-size photograph.
  • Hotel booking/reservation, or the address of your other accommodation.

The official single-entry tourist visa fee is separate from any optional Uganda Visa Agency assistance/service fee. Government visa fees are non-refundable and bank charges may apply.

Process

How US Citizens Apply for a Uganda Visa

Choose the appropriate Uganda visa category for your purpose of travel.
Complete the official online visa application form.
Upload the required supporting documents.
Submit the application and pay the applicable government visa fee.
Wait for the immigration decision and provide any additional information requested.
After approval, travel with your approval/travel authorization and valid passport.

Travelling to Uganda from United States

Uganda's tourist visa is intended for visits such as tourism, family visits and medical treatment. Visa-required travellers should obtain the applicable online approval before departure. Visa-exempt travellers should still travel with valid documents and comply with the conditions of entry.

For travellers planning to visit Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda for tourism, the East African Tourist Visa is a separate option. The issuing country should be the traveller's first entry point.

Frequently Asked Questions

US citizens who are not covered by a current visa exemption need the appropriate Uganda visa before travelling.

The official Uganda single-entry tourist visa fee is US$50.

Uganda Immigration directs visa-prone travellers to apply online and obtain approval before travelling; ordinary visas are not issued on arrival.

For tourism, Uganda Immigration currently lists a passport bio-data page with at least six months' validity, tour plan, travel itinerary/booking, recent passport-size photograph, and hotel booking/reservation or another accommodation address.

Uganda Immigration states that the single-entry tourist visa can be granted for up to three months. The approval authorization itself is valid for 90 days from approval, so the traveller should travel within that period.

Uganda also offers the East African Tourist Visa for tourism in Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda. It is a separate visa category with its own requirements and fee.
